Life Design

Are you designing your life? Do you have kids and if so, have you spoken with them about designing their life beyond what they want to "be" when they grow up?

In this episode I explore the idea of creating an Avatar and how that might look. Sometimes looking outside of ourselves is a bit easier to create the ideal life without restriction.

Sample Life Design Questions:

How does this avatar live?

What type of music does this avatar like?

What type of clothes does he wear and why? Relaxed attire and more casual or professional?

Where does he live and why did he choose this area?

What type of places and businesses does he visit and where does he get his groceries?

What type of friends does he have, are they supportive and intellectual, do they challenge the narrative or are they go with the flow of the day?

What kind of hobbies does this avatar have? Are they quite hobbies and solo endeavors or are they team oriented and more athletic?

Does this avatar work out and how often? What kind of working out? Strength training and weights or yoga and stretching? How many times per week?

Does this avatar meditate? Why or why not?

What is their relationship with God or a higher power?

What do you imagine gives this avatar meaning in life?

What does this avatar do to make money and how much money does it take to achieve the goals of above?

Can the career that you’ve chosen support the desires of the previous questions? If it can’t initially, can it eventually?

What kind of education or skillset is required for this career path?

How many hours a week should he work? Why?

Does this avatar want financial independence, if yes, at what age?

What will be required to achieve this? What is the saving and investing rate required?

Does he want to travel? If so where and why and for how long?

What will he take away from the experience of travelling?

How does he travel, on a budget or lavishly and what would an average trip cost?

Does he want to be married one day or not?

What type of woman does he want to meet?

What does she do for hobbies? Are the aligned with his hobbies and interests? Does it matter?

Does she want to travel, is she scared of planes and prefer driving? Does this align with his interests?

Does he want children? How many?

At what age does he want children and why that age?

Does he want to take them to school and drop them off, does he want to attend all of their events at school and beyond or is he ok with outsourcing some of this?

Does this avatar read? How often and what kind of books?

Does this avatar want to keep up on the news of the world or pretend his world is all that matters?

Both are ok, you are not judging your avatar, you are simply curious and asking questions.

The idea of this exercise is to free yourself and begin dreaming. Is this avatar your future self or simply an idea? What if you lived this life, would you be smiling every day, knowing how engaged you are with your life, that you designed this and you are an architect?

Can you free yourself of micro disappointments when things don’t go to plan?
